Injury Rate Drops to Lowest Level in State's History

Kentucky’s rate of nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses dropped to 3.4 per 100 full-time employees in 2016, the lowest rate since the federal government began collecting that data in 1996, the state Labor Cabinet said Friday. It was still higher than the national average of 2.9, however, but better than Kentucky’s rate of 3.7 in 2015. The rate in 1996 was 8.4, the cabinet said. There were 92 work-related fatalities in Kentucky in 2016, down from the 99 in 2015, and work injuries involving transportation and material-moving occupations accounted for the highest amount ...
