A woman in western New York must spend up to a year in jail and pay restitution after she was sentenced Monday for cashing her dead father's workers' compensation checks.
Bonnie Slater, 60, pleaded guilty in September after the state Inspector General's Office found that she had forged her father's name on more than $3,000 in benefits checks after he died in 2017. She also must pay $933 in costs, the judge in Cattaraugus County ruled.
