A commission appointed by President Donald Trump to address the nation’s opioid crisis has released its final report, with 56 wide-ranging recommendations that include mandatory education for physicians who prescribe the drugs.
The panel also recommended creating a national hub for prescription monitoring data and changing Medicare reimbursement policies that discourage the use of non-opioid treatment for pain. The latter could impact workers’ compensation because many states’ workers’ comp fee schedules are based on Medicare.
