State Releases New Opioid Management Protocols

The Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission on Monday published comprehensive revisions to its opioid management protocols. The new opioid guidelines incorporate a state law that limits initial prescriptions to seven-day supplies for adults, with some exceptions; requires the risks of addiction and overdose to be explained to patients getting opioids for the first time; and requires providers to check the Physician Drug Monitoring Program before writing the first prescription.
