Starting next week, employers and insurers that want to compel action or respond to a worker's attempt to compel are going to have to get a lawyer, as the North Carolina Industrial Commission will no longer accept motions for relief filed by insurance adjusters.
Adjusters may still file informational forms, such as forms to accept, deny or ask for more time to review a workers' compensation claim, but adjusters will not be allowed to file motions or respond to them.
The reason? Filing such a form constitutes the unauthorized practice of law, the commission has determined.
