As part of its crackdown on unsafe workplaces operated by the federal government, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a veterans hospital in Arkansas for numerous willful and repeat violations.
The John L. McClellan Veterans Memorial Hospital in Little Rock was hit with 15 citations, but because it’s federally operated OSHA cannot fine the U.S. Office of Veterans Affairs-run facility. Had it been a private employer, the hospital would be facing nearly $200,000 in penalties, according to Carlos Reynolds, OSHA’s area director in Little Rock.
