Mental health issues are often seen as intractable, requiring years of therapy that can add significantly to the cost of a workers' compensation claim.
Physicians and therapists at the International Workers' Compensation Foundation's conference on disability and risk management said Tuesday that it doesn't have to be that way. All it takes to permanently reverse post-traumatic stress disorder, they said, is 12 to 15 weeks of intensive therapy, lots of trained staff members — and maybe a little vomit.
