Court Upholds $1.5 Million Award for Railway Worker's Death after Degloving

The Appellate Court of Illinois last week upheld a $1.5 million award to the widow of a railway worker who died of a stroke after being struck by a train and suffering a degloving injury to his leg. Union Pacific had challenged the jury verdict, arguing that the jury shouldn't have been allowed to hear testimony from Clarence Roach's wife and his long-time personal physician. The railway argued that the trial judge shouldn't have let Dr. Manzoor Shah give his opinion as to the cause of Clarence Roach's death since Shah hadn't seen Roach for 17 months before his death.
