A U.S. senator from Montana is proposing legislation that would keep injured wildland firefighters on their pre-injury retirement track.
Federal wildland firefighters can retire after 20 years on the job, but they are converted to the 30-year retirement track of ordinary federal employees if they are injured and reassigned to a non-hazardous role, said Sen. Steve Daines, a Republican, in a statement.
Daines introduced S.3544, the so-called Wildland Firefighter Retirement and Disability Compensation Benefits Act of 2016, in the Senate on Dec. 9.
