Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed longtime ally Jimmy Patronis to serve as the state's chief financial officer until next year's election, his office announced Monday. Patronis, a 45-year-old Panama City restaurateur who served four terms as a Republican in the Florida House of Representatives, will succeed Jeff Atwater, who is leaving before his term's end to become CFO of Florida Atlantic University.  Atwater's premature departure gave Scott a rare opportunity to appoint a CFO, a position that is elected in Florida.
