More frequent testing and less onerous requirements are among the recommendations put forward to address findings in a recent report documenting the dwindling number of medical providers willing to serve as qualified medical evaluators in California.
The report by University of California, Berkeley, researcher Frank Neuhauser delivered to the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation in October identified a 17% drop in the number of QMEs over the last decade. There were 2,649 QMEs in 2016 compared to 3,187 in 2007.
