The state Senate Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations will hear testimony today on bills that would expand the workers’ compensation exemption for corporate officers in California and require a study of alternative ways to pay medical providers.
Senate Bill 189, by Sen. Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, would lower the threshold used to determine if an officer or member of a company’s board can be exempted from work comp. The bill would reduce to 10% from 15% the required ownership interest a person would need to be exempt from comp.
