A Louisiana appellate court ruled that an unlawfully employed teenager who suffered extensive burn injuries was not entitled to additional compensation for severe burns or future loss of earnings.
Fourteen-year-old Jose Moran suffered second- and third-degree burns over about 36% of his body after falling down a stairwell while carrying hot cooking oil for Jacques-Imo Café LLC in 2018. He needed third-degree burns over at least 40% of his body to qualify for an additional payment.
