We agree with the august members of our Supreme Court but, for us, this one doesn’t pass the “smell test” for lifetime line-of-duty benefits for a police officer. We suggest our readers carefully review the Illinois Supreme Court ruling in Vaughn v. City of Carbondale, 2016 IL 119181 (March 24). Plaintiff, a former city police officer, was on duty and while standing outside his patrol car in a parking lot, reached inside the car to answer a dispatcher's call on his radio.
