The Sackler family, which owns Purdue Pharma, has reportedly offered to give up the entire value of the company to settle lawsuits over the drugmaker’s role in the opioid crisis.
The Sacklers would also kick in $3 billion in cash as part of the settlement, as well as $1.5 billion from the sale of another company they own, Mundipharma, National Public Radio reported on Monday.
A Purdue Pharma spokeswoman provided NPR with details of the family’s offer after reports surfaced over the weekend that settlement negotiations had broken down.
