The California Workers’ Compensation Institute said the reimbursement rate for injured workers who have to travel for medical treatment will increase to 54.5 cents per mile in 2018, from 53.5 cents.
The Labor Code requires claims administrators to reimburse injured workers for travel at the standard mileage rate adopted by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS on Thursday announced that the standard mileage rate would increase to 54.5 cents at the start of the new year.
Mileage reimbursement for injured workers is based on the date of travel, not the date of injury. Claims administrators should continue reimbursing injured workers at 53.5 cents per mile for travel through the end of the year, CWCI said.
A list of reimbursement rates going back to 2006 is available on the Division of Workers’ Compensation website, here.
