Bad publicity wasn’t the end of Ace American Insurance Co.’s troubles after the workers’ compensation carrier finally dropped a lawsuit last summer against a Tyler, Texas, widow and her small children to recover death benefit payments. Ace’s handling of Crystal Davis’ claim prompted the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation to issue Ace a sanction totaling $250,000 for failure to timely pay benefits and other infractions.
