A Republican lawmaker has prefiled legislation that provides for a rebuttable presumption for cancer and mental disorders suffered by first responders. House Bill 1647, introduced by Rep. Nick Schroer, R-O’Fallon, would make paid and volunteer firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians eligible for a rebuttable cancer presumption if they have been assigned to hazardous duty for at least five years.
