Enforcement of an opioid-prescribing guideline for acute pain reduced by half the percentage of new claims in which opioids were prescribed, according to a study from Mitchell and Utah-based workers’ comp insurer WCF.
The study, which was published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, compared opioid prescribing in new claims for 18 months before and 18 months after WCF applied the opioid guideline from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, or ACOEM.
