Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner took to Facebook on Thursday and sent a videotaped message to Democrats who control the House and Senate: “Get things done.”
Rauner ordered lawmakers back into a special session starting Wednesday — 10 days before the state is scheduled to begin a third straight fiscal year without a budget, the longest of any state in history.
Democrats have offered up major tax hikes but have been unwilling to adopt the pension and workers’ compensation reforms desired by the governor, who also is pushing a property tax freeze.
