Lawmaker Seeking Mandatory Premium Audits of Employers

The chairman of the New York Assembly Insurance Committee has filed legislation that would require workers' compensation insurance carriers to conduct annual premium audits of construction companies and biennial audits of all other insured employers. Insurance Committee Chairman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, filed Assembly 2199 on Jan. 15, at the request of the New York Insurance Association, which contends the audits will help curb the misclassification of workers.
