A man who repaired appliances while collecting benefits for an industrial injury was ordered to pay $6,049 in restitution to Texas Mutual Insurance Co., the carrier announced.
Joe D. Lozano Sr. also served one day in jail after being convicted on a single Class A misdemeanor for workers’ compensation fraud.
Lozano claimed he was injured while working as a repairman for A&A Appliance in Midland. Texas Mutual started paying benefits before learning Lozano was working as a self-employed repairman.
