Federal agents on Thursday raided the office of a Temple, Texas doctor who treated workers' compensation claimants, carting away boxes of files, according to a report by the Temple Daily Telegram.
An agent for the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General's Office told the newspaper that the investigation of Dr. Leslie Wayne Benson "is a law-enforcement activity," but provided no other details.
The newspaper said that Benson, who also has offices in Waco and Fort Worth, specializes in treating injured government workers.
Benson was disciplined by the Texas Medical Board in August 2013 for failing to keep medical records that were adequate to support billing and for not listing enough physical findings. Records of three patient evaluations didn't show details about the evaluations that were billed on the patients' behalf, the Star-Telegram said. Also, Benson had referred a patient for diagnostic imaging and chiropractic therapy, but the records did not adequately document objective physical findings.
The Medical Board ordered Benson to take 16 hours of continuing medical education and pay a $3,000 administrative penalty, the newspaper said.
