Volunteer Firefighters Might Get Protections

After three years of battling to get workers’ compensation coverage for volunteer firefighters, the Montana Legislature's Educational and Local Government Interim Committee is considering whether counties have broken a 1997 agreement that required insurance coverage for firefighters, according to the Associated Press.  The Montana State-County Cooperative Fire Protection Program was signed by all of the state’s 56 counties and “loosely required” workers’ compensation coverage for anyone who may use state-provided equipment, the AP reported.
