After three years of battling to get workers’ compensation coverage for volunteer firefighters, the Montana Legislature's Educational and Local Government Interim Committee is considering whether counties have broken a 1997 agreement that required insurance coverage for firefighters, according to the Associated Press.
The Montana State-County Cooperative Fire Protection Program was signed by all of the state’s 56 counties and “loosely required” workers’ compensation coverage for anyone who may use state-provided equipment, the AP reported.
