Agent Charged With Additional Insurance Fraud Crimes

Monday, October 16, 2017 | 0

An insurance agent charged with defrauding three clients this summer was arrested Thursday on alleged violations involving three additional firms, The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

Timothy Hewitt, 41, of South Abington Township, was charged with insurance fraud, forgery and theft against Arc Electric of Hazleton, Hi-Tech Flooring of Kingston and Designtech Interiors of Kingston.

Authorities say Hewitt collected nearly $14,000 from the companies to post insurance bonds that they needed to secure certain jobs, but he never sent the money to the surety company.

"Basically, he pocketed the money," Detective Joseph Sarkis of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Task Force said.

The task force filed charges against Hewitt in July for allegedly allowing companies' workers' compensation policies to lapse but continuing to bill them.
