Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law a bill creating a presumption that staph infections arise out of employment for firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
HB 3662, by Rep. Marcus Evans, D-Chicago, took effect Friday when the governor signed it.
The bill adds staph infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, to a list of other conditions presumed compensable for first responders that include lung or respiratory disease, heart conditions, hypertension, tuberculosis and cancer.
