State Rep. Fred Keller, R-Mifflinburg, has filed a bill that would allow employers to register independent contractors who work for them.
The registration would include a written waiver by the independent contractor of all benefits under the Workers’ Compensation Act, according to House Bill 1781.
Independent contractors also would have to sign affidavits acknowledging they are not employees and are not entitled to benefits but that they may purchase their own workers’ compensation insurance.
