As expected, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has vetoed legislation that would have required the Workers’ Compensation Commission to take $10 million from its operations fund to create the state Employers Mutual Insurance Co. to compete against private insurers.
The Republican governor said the Democratic-sponsored House Bill 2622 would have disrupted the current market by creating new and unnecessary layers of “government interference due to an unfounded belief that the current competitive system is broken.”
