The Texas insurance commissioner has given final approval to rules that govern reimbursement and billing disputes that arise when injured workers are treated at military medical facilities.
The rules were required by Senate Bill 935, which passed the Legislature last spring. The law makes it clear that military hospitals that treat civilians, such as Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, are federal operations that are not bound by the Texas workers' compensation fee schedules.
The law left it to the Division of Workers' Compensation to devise rules on the new procedures.
