Hearing Scheduled on Bill to Eliminate Comp Exemption for Day Laborers

The Assembly Insurance Committee will hear testimony shortly after lawmakers return to the Capitol in January on a bill that would remove from mandatory coverage requirements an exemption for day laborers. The committee is hearing Assembly Bill 206, by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, D-San Diego, Jan. 10. AB 206 would eliminate the exemption for employers to have workers’ compensation coverage in place for those hired to work fewer than 52 hours in a three-month period.
