A physician accused of accepting $2 million in kickbacks to prescribe compound creams has mounted a legal challenge to Senate Bill 1160's mandatory lien stay provision.
The provision, which went into effect Jan. 1, forbids physicians (and those who filed liens on their behalf) from collecting on liens after they are charged with workers' compensation fraud, medical billing fraud, insurance fraud or fraud against the Medicare or Medi-Cal system.
