California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill allowing up to 180 days for hospitals to bill for emergency services.
Provisions in last year’s Senate Bill 1160 eliminating the requirement for payers to conduct prospective utilization review on certain procedures in the first 30 days following an injury also required bills for emergency treatment to be submitted within 30 days from the date of service. The UR exemption and the 30-day billing deadline go into effect at the start of 2018.
