California this week became the first state in the nation to approve lighting safety protocols for nighttime agriculture workers, according to a news release from the Department of Industrial Relations.
DIR said the lighting standards were crafted to protect nighttime agriculture workers from potential hazards as they work in fields, operate vehicles and use heavy machinery.
The state Office of Administrative Law approved the new standards June 3. The safety protocols go into effect Wednesday and will be enforced by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
