Unreported and misclassified employees in California construction jobs cost the workers’ compensation system $264 million in 2011, and the problem is growing, according to a report from the research group Economic Roundtable.
The research, which the Roundtable released Monday, draws on 40 years of data from federal and state statistics to illustrate a picture of formal labor clearer than ever before, study author Yvonne Yen Liu said. Its title is “Sinking Underground.”
