A Mississippi resident who was shot when a group of armed kidnappers attacked the oil rig where he was working off the coast of Nigeria is asking the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to decide which of the various corporate entities involved in the rig's operations can be held liable for his injuries under the Jones Act and general maritime law as his employer or as the employer of the workers whose negligence allegedly provided his assailants with access to the rig.
