Court Upholds Worker's Convictions for Fraud, Perjury but Reduces Sentence

A California appellate court upheld a worker’s convictions for fraud and perjury but modified his sentence to remove one year of probation. Ignacio Velasquez worked for Tolle Nursery as a delivery truck driver. He earned $16.50 an hour plus overtime. In June 2017, he filed a workers’ compensation claim and began collecting temporary total disability benefits. Velasquez received benefits equal to two-thirds of his average weekly wages, tax-free, from June 2017 through June 2019, totaling $25,900.
