A state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would require all California contractors to purchase workers’ compensation insurance regardless of whether they claim employees.
Senate Bill 216, authored by Napa Democrat Bill Dodd, would force contractors in fields such as tree services, heating and air conditioning, and concrete services to carry workers’ comp coverage. The bill also would require all licensed contractors in the state to purchase comp insurance by 2025.
