Texas contractors and subcontractors would be required to provide workers’ compensation coverage for each of their employees, under legislation filed ahead of the 2023 session.
Rep. Armando Walle, D-Houston, on Nov. 21 introduced House Bill 778 proposing the new coverage requirements.
The bill would add the mandate that contractors and subcontractors provide comp coverage for employees to Labor Code Section 406.096. Currently, the statute requires that governmental entities ensure contractors have coverage on public building projects.
