QME Gets Probation for Overbilling, Self-Referrals

The California Division of Workers’ Compensation temporarily suspended and placed on probation a qualified medical evaluator who allegedly overbilled for medical-legal evaluations and referred injured workers for testing at facilities in which he had a financial interest.The division suspended the QME status of Fremont chiropractor Richard Skala from Nov. 15, 2012, through May 3, with 90 days of the suspension stayed.
