In a sting operation boosted by Yelp reviews, Connecticut authorities shuttered 23 nail salons along Long Island Sound from Branford to Stamford for failing to pay minimum wage and not providing employees with workers’ compensation, according to a story in the Branford Seven.
Gary Pechie, the director of compliance unit at the wage and workplace standards division of the state Department of Labor, said in the story the sting was started after complaints in Yelp reviews indicated the technicians might be getting their pay “off the books.”
