New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday signed a package of bills intended to remove barriers and expedite workers’ compensation claims and payments from the Victim Compensation Fund for 9/11 victims and survivors.
Hochul signed S.9370/A.9922A, which creates a work comp presumption for people who participated in the World Trade Center rescue, recovery and clean-up operations. The governor said in a statement that many first responders and rescue and recovery workers filed timely claim for benefits with the Workers' Compensation Board, but the claims were denied without cause.
