Utilization review requirements in California are in a state of limbo, with mandates from a 2016 reform bill now in effect while the industry awaits Division of Workers’ Compensation regulations to fill in certain details.
The situation was pointed out in a blog post this week by Dan Maldonado, clinical director at Genex Services. For example, Senate Bill 1160, signed into law in September 2016, requires utilization review organizations to have URAC accreditation as of July 1, 2018.
