WCAB Refers Sedgwick to Audit Unit for Unreasonable Delays

The Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board referred Sedgwick CMS for additional investigation into its claims-handling practices following review of a case in which it said indicated a third-party administrator as a pattern of practice refused to authorize treatment for a severely ill man even after ordered to do so by a judge.   The Appeals Board also upheld penalties imposed by a workers’ compensation judge of up to $110,000 for 11 instances of unreasonably delaying medical care to a patient who was dying from an infection he contracted after undergoing surgery for a compe...
