A Ludlow, Massachusetts, physician has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for illegally prescribing opioids to patients for no legitimate medical purpose, including some who had documented substance use disorder.
In addition, Dr. Fernando Jayma must serve three years of probation upon his release from jail, permanently resign his medical license and pay $9,778 in restitution, according to the state Attorney General’s office. Jayma, 74, was sentenced this week in Berkshire Superior Court.
