Now that the governor has lifted a ban on elective surgery, the Texas workers' compensation commissioner is asking insurers and utilization review agents to extend preauthorizations that were granted before the ban took effect.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on March 22 issued an executive order putting non-emergency surgeries and other medical procedures on hold in order to help limit the spread of the coronavirus. On April 17, the governor lifted the ban as long as safety precautions are followed.
