Lawmakers Propose Making First Responder Cancer Presumption Conclusive

Two bills introduced this year by state Sens. Paul Boyer and Heather Carter would make it easier for police and firefighters to qualify for Arizona's cancer presumption and eliminate the opportunity for employers to rebut the claim that the condition arose from employment. SB 1161, by Boyer, R-Phoenix, would make the presumption that cancer is an occupational condition for firefighters “conclusive and irrebuttable.” The presumption depends on a few conditions: that the firefighter was not diagnosed with cancer during a pre-employment physical exam, and ...
