The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation announced that the National Council on Compensation Insurance is proposing changes to its experience rating methodology.
One of the changes, if approved, would result in a Texas-specific split point for experience rating.
Claim costs below the split point are considered primary losses and given more weight in experience rating than costs above the split point, also known as excess losses.
The split point throughout the country is $18,500. Under the proposal, the split point in Texas would be reduced to $16,500, effective July 1, 2024.
