Governor Signs Injury Definition, Reporting Bills

Gov. Gavin Newsom enacted legislation eliminating the 24-hour hospitalization requirement for an injury to be considered “serious,” setting the stage for an electronic injury reporting portal in the state. The governor on Aug. 30 signed AB 1805, revising the definition of “serious injury or illness.” The bill eliminates the requirement that a person be hospitalized for a minimum of 24 hours for an injury to be considered serious.
