The U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit alleging a Texas newspaper illegally fired a reporter in retaliation for reporting an insect infestation in the newsroom.
The department said a journalist at the Killeen Daily Herald complained about bug bites and a possible flea infestation. The reporter had the bugs examined, and they were identified as no-see-ums or biting midges, the department said.
The reporter was fired after sharing this information with management at the Daily Herald.
