Court Rejects Claim for Penalties

The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled that an injured worker was not entitled to penalties for his employer’s alleged delay in paying benefits. Case: Dubinovic v. Des Moines Public Schools, No. 18-1065, 06/05/2019, published. Facts: Izudin Dubinovic worked for the Des Moines Public Schools as a custodian. He injured his right wrist at work in December 2012. DMPS accepted the injury as compensable. Dr. Barron Bremner treated Dubinovic and released him to work with no restrictions in March 2013.
